The noble ideals upon which our godly founding fathers established America was the model for the passionate framers of the Liberian Constitution.

The founders were 15,000 freed and free-born black people from America and over 3,000 Afro-Caribbean’s who were sponsored by the American Colonization Society in hopes of giving them a greater opportunity for self determination than they were receiving in the U.S.

They declared themselves the first Republic of Africa in July of 1847.

For a hundred and forty years they enjoyed relative peace and prosperity but a military coup and two civil wars decimated the country from 1989 until 2003. Nearly 250,000 people died. Liberia’s economy shrank by 90%.

Now, Liberia needs an army of Christians to help raise up a new generation of godly children to transform the country.

“Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.”

– William Carey, father of modern missions

What can we say, those of us who volunteer our time and provide prayer, counsel and encouragement to Perry Geevan Smith, founder of two growing schools in the midst of extreme poverty and horrific unemployment? This man is a modern-day apostle. He is quietly, determinedly, steadily holding fast to his God given assignment of ministering to the children, educators and their families in River Cess and Monrovia, Liberia. Every spare hour is dedicated to their success. Day and night, almost tirelessly he works, plans, and gives his energies, and his finances to feed, educate and love complete strangers who are becoming his closest friends. He started with nothing just sixteen years ago. Take a look at the picture below and see just one of the photos that represent nearly 200 students who are now receiving the Lord, a wonderful education, godly values and a renewed love for their country. In five more years there will be over 300 and in eight more it will likely exceed 400 transformed lives. If you are reading this article, the Lord can help you partner in prayer and finance with a worthy ministry that is expecting great things from God.
